Sarapiqui

you like picking your way through long, continuous Class IV, V rapids that demand precise eddy-hopping and strong crosscurrent moves, you're go-ing to have a ball on the Gallitos l section of the Sarapiqui. The excite-ment begins twelve paddle strokes into the run. If you flush out the far end of the first 100-yard Class IV+ boulder garden feeling like you're in over your head, get out while you still can. This initiation rapid is a fair example of what awaits downstream, including five other Class V's and countless Class IV's mixed throughout. After the low-lying gorge breaks halfway through the run there are numerous opportunities to look upstream and see Volcano Poas looming in the distance.
